Copenhagen free walking tour:We chose to try out the free walking tour company and were very pleasantly surprised. Our guide did an excellent job of explaining the historical sites in Copenhagen as well as give advice for fun bars and clubs in the area (although we ended up staying at our hostel bar both nights). We went over to the "lesser town" of Christianshavn to see a less touristy side of Copenhagen with beautiful winding streets filled with vibrant colorful houses. We then headed over to the free town of Christiana, which is popular among the young hippy crowd (for good reason).

Copenhagen street food! This food market is actually a converted abandoned warehouse located just over the bridge in Christianshavn. There are over 20 food and drink stands inside ranging from Korean street food, organic juice bars, mojitos stands, and our favorite, the egg wrap stand. The egg wrap stand serves both veggie and chicken wraps made out of a thin layer of egg which was so good we decided to go back for our second night! The street food market is a great budget friendly option for those who wants to have a casual meal in a lively fun environment. I also recommend trying the passion fruit mojito and blackberry gin and tonic from the drink vendors!

Illum rooftop bar! (not pictured)Illum is a relatively new rooftop bar located in the heart of Copenhagen on the main square. We grabbed a glass of wine and enjoyed one of the best panoramic views in town. The drinks were pretty expensive but the views made it worth the while!

Copenhagen downtown hostelWe chose to stay at the Copenhagen Downtown Hostel in a 4 person female dorm. The hostel was in the heart of downtown Copenhagen in the Kobenhavn K district which was close to the main shopping street as well as the historical sites. The hostel had a large common area which served an all you can eat breakfast in the morning for 5 euros. This same space turned into one of the most lively bars in Copenhagen with live music and cheap (for Copenhagen) drinks!

ChristianiaHere in Christiania marijuana is openly available for sale on just about every street corner. Although marijuana is illegal in Copenhagen, the government looks the other way when it comes to this one small town. Copenhagen had a large heroin problem back in the 1960s and to solve this issue people were incentivized to stop using hard drugs and turn to "soft" drugs such as marijuana. If you live in Christiana you most likely participate on the weed culture, however, if you are caught using or distributing hard drugs you are automatically kicked out. It seems as if the government is trying to keep the drug culture at bay by keeping marijuana sales to a confined location and further keep dealers off the street corners of downtown Copenhagen.
